I am hoping to finish my Educational Administration degree in the next two years so I can further pursue School Administration. I really love my job.

My current hurdles are finding financial aid to go to TCU... it is dreadfully expensive and applying for school at UTA which is not my first choice. The program is a bit different and I have to take the GRE. Boo.

Have any of you studied for the GRE? It seems like a convoluted mess that has little to do with my future career but I am willing to do a lot to stay on track. I didn't realize my vocabulary was so abismal. I have a pack of 350 flash cards I am carrying around trying to absorb their meanings.

Aver...Hackneyed...Salubrious...Obviate...Alacrity....Shootme

I am also facing math again after a six year absence. That is, six years since I took the last standardized-so-I-can-be-a-teacher test. I had to get a GED math book to refresh my memory for that test because I hadn't had any since sophomore year of college...in 2001. Yes, children. I know that you were in diapers that year. If you ask me who Pearl Jam is again I may have to harm you.

I got through Math the hard way in school. I just didn't get it nor did I have any motivation. I am kicking myself now. How many times do I wish I had paid more attention in Punkin Moss's 9th grade Algebra class?? Oh yeah, you caught that did you? Her name was Punkin Moss...You can probably guess what a high quality teacher she was. It is hard to motivate your students to Mathematical excellence when they have no respect for you for showing up 10 minutes late to class because you were having a smoke break in your old suburban parked right outside the classroom door. She had a mullet too. Just saying.

It's not Punkin's fault though. I was never an ambitious student until I went to college. I was a late academic bloomer...but now that I want school to be my life I wish I didn't have that sinking feeling in my stomach when I open the GRE section on factoring.

Factoring? Sounds vaguely familiar.

(x+y)² is the same thing as x² + 2xy + y²?

It is?
Something about aluminum foil? But don’t forget to pay special attention to the signs!

Pos x Pos= Pos
Neg x Neg= Pos
Pos x Neg= Neg
Neg x Pos =Neg

This is not salubrious! It is tortuous. It is totally not germane. Am I using these correctly?

I'll be at Panera under a pile of old math books and vocabulary index cards.

Peace!

Amyzinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13074501615012900907noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11035256.post-10888541019962309192012-03-15T21:30:00.002-07:002012-03-15T21:45:48.584-07:00I'm BackApparently the Blogging trend rose in my group of friends in 2006 and died in 2008. However, I am deciding to be back.

I have a lot to say because I am a learner and there is a lot in my life I would like to keep up with. And since I sit in front of my computer for large amounts of my life, this should be the easiest way.

Just so there is something here, these are some movies and books I have seen/read lately:

Books:
Unwind--- weird sci-fi but so interesting. I couldn't put it down. I am sure the teenagers it was written for couldn't either.

Pillars of the Earth- I started this 1,000+ page book when I started a nutso HCG diet. It's massive length and stunning detail distracted me from the fact that I was only eating my own butt and 500 calories per day. Great book but scandaloso in parts. Sheesh.

The Help- I don't really need to say anything about this. The movie was actually just as good as the book . I think that's the first time I've ever said that!

Movies:

Drive- Ryan Gosling is nuts in this film. We like Independent films around here because we have seen everything under the sun and hate to smell the plot coming. My time is so precious lately that I just get up and walk away from movies that upset me or seem like they are going to disappoint. This one didn't.

One Day- Independent film let down. I have no idea what happened in the last 10 minutes but nothing could pull that movie up out of the dregs it had created....oh, and I can't stand Anne Hathaway

Midnight in Paris- My first Woody Allen film! I loved it! I particularly enjoyed the dialogue and how Allen made Paris a character. Beautiful and nonpredictable. Plus I really enjoyed seeing Rachel McAdams as a nightmare again. I missed her since Regina George.

The Ides of March- Ryan Gosling again. I swear I don't have a "thing" he just is working really hard these days. Great film... Good job George Clooney. It'll make you hate politics...wait, you already do.

The Descendants- on Blu-Ray... Loved it more the second time. "Sid" will make you laugh... a lot. You would think Matthew Lillard would but he takes a different role this time. I spent that whole day crying at the TV...I also saw the notebook that day... Gee! Maybe I do have a Ryan Gosling "thing."

Throwback::The Notebook- Nicholas Sparks, I only love your work when translated into movies. I tend to throw your books across the room in mushy disgust.

Way Throwback: Empire of the Sun... Christian Bale as a young child. He was just as disturbing then but I really love this movie.

Okay, That's enough for now. Making another Blockbuster run (yes, they are still in business) tomorrow because watching a slew of movies is how we Van Dycks roll on vacation.

I am going to try to enjoy the rest of Spring Break.

Blessings!!Amyzinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13074501615012900907noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11035256.post-32212778813567057882009-10-23T12:31:00.001-07:002009-10-23T12:31:59.732-07:00Drive Your Teacher CrazyThese are just a few things that make be a bit batty. I know I did them as a student and wondered why my teachers were high strung.

Here are some sure-fire ways to drive your teachers crazy.

1. Hand in homework at random times during the day when you happen to see your teacher walking by. This will increase the likelihood that she will lose it before grading it and she will have to give you a 100.

2. Yell "What?" every time you get behind taking notes during lecture.

3. When the teacher asks you a question, look at him/her blankly and say, "Huh?"

4. Raise your hand and just start speaking before anyone calls on you.

5. As soon as the teacher walks into the room get ten friends to come up and ask the teacher questions about stuff she is probably just about to explain to the class. Do this before she has a chance to put any books down.

6. 5 seconds before a test ask the teacher "Does spelling count?" (As a teacher I always ask back, If I say, "yes" will you make the effort to spell it right? Does it magically help you spell? I don't get it.)

7. Drum on everything...especially during lecture.

8. As soon as the teacher turns around, mumble to your neighbor.

9. Freak out every time the teacher assigns something that looks hard. Don't take the time to see if this is true and NEVER, I repeat, NEVER read the directions. Just start writing and complaining.

10. Ask, "Is this going to be on the test?" or "Do we need to know this?" about every new concept. If the teacher says it won't be on the test, put down your pencil and stare at the wall. If the teacher says it will be on the test then slow down the whole lecture by asking her to repeat every sentence three or four times.Amyzinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13074501615012900907noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11035256.post-3280697418022128662008-12-10T15:28:00.001-08:002008-12-10T15:32:05.356-08:00What is a name?Names I could never give to my children:

Girl names
Hayley Hay
Bailey Hay
Autumn Hay
Summer Hay
May Hay
June Hay
April Hay
Violet Hay (just odd)
Anything that is an adjective.

Boy names
Mario Andret Hay
Roland D. I am so excited. I have mentioned before about my love of amusement parks. I can't wait to get to New Braunfels and get on a tube.

Schlitterbahn cracks me up. There is no need to feel self conscious at this place at all. I have no idea what woodwork these people crawled out of. After spending the summer on Huntington Beach last year where everyone wished "they all could be California girls" because they were such stinkin' hotties, Schlitterbahn is a nice change of pace.

Everyone is fat, sunburned and sporting a drowned rat hairdo. This is no bikini fashion show but a smattering of tank tops and aqua socks. Families come from all over the world to experience this water park. No lie. Schlitterbahn is one of the top rated water parks in the WORLD every year.

The main park water comes from the Comal River. It is cool, refreshing and chlorine-free! The main park is also full of picnic tables and a million trees. You can bring in your own ice chest of food and park it with your junk at a table and then leave it all day. No one messes with your stuff. You can rent lockers for your purse. It is just fabulous!

You play, come back and eat, take a tram ride to one of the other two awesome parks and then come back and eat, lounge in the lazy river, and go home exhausted. It is a great day.

So this weekend Dan and I will take Kelly and Stefanie and head down to meet my parents and brother for a fun filled weekend!

Peace!
Amyzinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13074501615012900907noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11035256.post-21955430255756086262008-06-09T07:56:00.000-07:002008-06-09T14:55:40.689-07:00Still a stay-at-home-wife!School is out and I am in the process of getting a job. References are pending so I can't start work until tomorrow. If they still don't come in then I won't start working until next Tuesday. Boo.

I am at home cleaning and watching SVU...okay, more watching SVU than cleaning, but then again I have all day to get stuff done.

UPDATE: I got the references in on time but I still can't start work until next Tuesday. I am so bummed...and applying elsewhere! We'll see what happens.Amyzinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13074501615012900907noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11035256.post-32183469094215070332008-06-04T12:47:00.000-07:002008-06-04T14:31:37.900-07:00You Will Need the Following Documents...CLPS life has ended for a season and I have been job hunting for a summer job to get me through these perilous months ahead. The whole job world is my oyster. What type of job should I get?

My first thoughts were to get something that I would be embarrassed to have as a career but would be soooo much fun to do for just a few months... like work at Six Flags!

To those of you who don't know, I am an amusement park enthusiast. That is putting it quite mildly. Last summer was a hallmark year. During the Summer of 2008 I went to:

Disneyland

Universal Studios Hollywood

Disneyland again (this was the most magical day ever!)

and Schlitterbahn (I'll spare you the pictures!)

But working at Six Flags never happened. Maybe next year. I will instead be working at the Children's Courtyard a few miles from my house. I am moderately excited about this but more excited not to be sitting on my couch watching "Law and Order" all day long.

I am so not kidding.

Today, however, I feel so productive that I have to write about it! I had to get an expanding file folder to hold all of the documents I needed to complete my tasks today!

First, I got our new Honda plated in Texas. Texas kills me! They charge so much tax for cars not bought here. $615 to be exact! Ouch.

For this little task you need to bring:
1. State Inspection Receipt
2. Out of State VIN Inspection or "Green Sheet" (Both available for $40 at your local mechanic)
3. Car Title
4. Driver's License
5. Proof of Insurance
6. Check book (Don't bring a check card. I believe the sign said they charge 2.3% to use the check card...that is an extra $14 in my case. They called it a "convenience fee." HA!)

Next I drove to the Children's Courtyard to give them my documents:
They require:
1. Driver's License
2. Social Security Card
3. College Transcript
4. A copy of my OU Diploma
5. CPR Certification.

This is no big deal and required at any job.

Then I went to get my Texas Driver's License. This required the most ridiculous amount of documentation:
1. Driver's License
2. Social Security Card
3. Proof of Insurance
4. Texas Car Registration
5. Birth Certificate
6. Marriage License
7. Check for $24.00
8. A form you fill out there.

You also had to take the vision test, get your thumbs fingerprinted, get your picture and raise your right hand and swear that you weren't lying about anything.

In Oklahoma I just filled out a form and handed over my TX license which I now know I should have just held onto!

As the DPS lady was walking away with all of the above documents to make copies I had a slight moment of panic. She was walking away with every proof of my existence; as having been born, married, previously licensed...everything.

I jokingly told her as she walked away, "Please don't disappear or I won't exist anymore!"

After having received my temporary Driver's License I went straight to Blockbuster to get a membership. It has been years since I had one and they wouldn't give me one without at TX DL!

I now feel totally up to date in life. It is a good feeling. I hope this helps next time you need to run around and get important tags and licenses!

Blessings!
Amyzinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13074501615012900907noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11035256.post-88166904614232088162008-04-02T21:11:00.001-07:002008-04-02T21:21:39.526-07:00Times, they are a changin'.Tygre moved out yesterday. I was so sad that I cried. I moved some stuff into her echoing room to make it look less abandoned.

I am so thrilled that she is getting married. Dan and I are headed to Corpus this weekend to be in the wedding. I just have one work day to go and then we can party!

I have started hearing the end of school countdown from the students. Summer is just around the corner. The seniors are getting anxious and everyone has Spring fever. It is really funny. I remember how hard it was to concentrate as a Senior at Carroll. We had a neat design to our school that had breezeways between narrow building with grass and trees. Whatever window you looked out of had something to distract you from class.

High school was a lot of fun. I had no idea at the time what was coming. I was ignorant of the journey God was about to take me on. He changed the plans I had made for myself and sent me back to Oklahoma. (That is an awesome story for another time...the moral is that I knew exactly where God wanted me and it would have been disobedience to go elsewhere.)

I joined up with the Baptist Student Union where I was active for 8 years as a student and staff member. God shook up every area of my life and I learned so much at OU. What an exciting experience.

A few of my seniors from A&P are going to OU next year. I am so jealous that they are just starting out on that awesome journey but I don't know that I would do it again. Don't we always say that?

My challenge to those of you who made it to the end of this post: Thinking back to your Senior year of high school, what did you think you would become? (Major, Career, marriage, etc) Then tell me what actually happened!

I thought I would be a medical missionary using all of my fabulous nursing skills. I also thought I would be a graduate of Texas A&M University and married to ...

Okay, What is yours!?Amyzinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13074501615012900907noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11035256.post-84128067319883760522008-03-08T19:35:00.000-08:002008-03-10T15:10:18.316-07:00The Return of the SkitmeisterAfter a 6 year absence I have returned to the stage in my first skit. Actually, I did two yesterday. It was so much fun.

We were promoting the Hope River Run, an 8K race that my church is putting on next weekend and I got to play a six year-old girl and a Rosanne Rosannadanna type newscaster but with a crazy New York accent.

I have been helping with the CLPS drama class and it is a blast. I can't wait to see those kids up there showing their stuff in May when we put on our play. We had the first run through today and will cast before the end of class on Friday. Jenny showed me some of these months ago and I never got over it. One day I was having such a sad day and I watched this video and started rolling! Finish up Cardiovascular System notes for A&P.
2. Start writing a Biology test.
3. Play Scrabulous on Facebook
4. Help Mrs. Holiday look for possible plays for Drama.
5.Wait until at least 7:20 pm to start watching American Idol, thus bypassing all commercials and the corny intro where the CGI dude raises his arms.
6. Review Biology notes so class goes smoothly.
7. Make some muffins or cookies to be used in a "mining" experiment in Earth Science.
8. Eat the leftovers.
9. Check my email.
10. Wash the dinner dishes.
12. Play Scrabulous on Facebook...why do I have 15 games going and it is never my turn?!
11. Start a load of laundry so I have clean dress socks
12. Find time to reply to Sus' huge, wonderful email.
13. Read a few chapters from Total Forgiveness.
14. Update my French podcasts.
15. Plug in my iPhone before it dies.
16. Play Scrabulous on Facebook...resist temptations to use cheats on the internet. Resist the urge to believe all your friends are cheating you.
17. Read the list of things that make me happy and be happy.
18. Take some Tums to get past the feeling left in your stomach by that Frito Chili Pie.
19. Put some socks on so my toes don't freeze.
20. Try to decide what to buy Tygre for her shower this weekend.
21. Call Karen to find a place to sleep when we get to Norman.
22. Buy some Ice Cream for the Barn Dance.
23. Wash western wear for Barn Dance.
24. Space out while looking at a heart diagram.
25. Read everyone else's blog to avoid doing #s 1-24.

Well there it is. I have a choleric tendency to make these huge lists of things to be done but unlike a Melancholy I never check them off. I get distracted like a Sanguine and wish I could be phleg. Oh well. ENJOY!

AmyAmyzinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13074501615012900907noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11035256.post-60830708762857534732008-02-19T19:47:00.000-08:002008-02-19T19:49:16.145-08:00The Film Critic ReturnsAfter a long absence I have moved the Pop Culture Critic to Blogger. I've been struggling just to get stuff together for school and taking care of my husband but haven't made meaningful relationships at my church. I have, however, made some fantastic friends amongst the lovely teachers at CLPS!

This week, everything changed. I went to a meeting of the Hope Drama group, Studio 1750. It was really great and I met some lovely people. I filmed a short video with some fab Hope goers and helped set up photo ops at the Girls' Sock Hop tonight.

By the way, the Sock Hop was the most adorable thing I have seen in years, perhaps even in my whole life. Tons of elementary aged girls in poodle skirts, rolled jeans and scarves in their hair running about frantically, huddling in groups to socialize and doing the limbo with fervor.

What is it about the make up of woman that makes her glow when in a twirly skirt? God embedded that one deep.

I am reminded of a scene from "Runaway Bride" where Julia Roberts tries on a wedding dress and says her favorite part is how it swishes like a bell when she moves. Every girl relates to that.
I came home smiling and exhausted, ready to tackle nursery duty tomorrow at church.

The whole point of all of this is to express how much my attitude has changed towards our place here in Fort Worth. It really is all up to me and taking advantage of opportunities to serve and meet people through those opportunities.

Things are looking up and my soul is incredibly full.

Blessings!Amyzinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13074501615012900907noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11035256.post-25344667549563808862008-01-18T11:37:00.000-08:002008-01-18T11:48:23.071-08:00Blog Transitions?
Well, I am getting a few new readers on my blog which I enjoy. Maybe it is time to bring a bit more maturity to my posts. Is this even possible?

Dan started Seminary today! I am so excited for him. I am sure he has a few different feelings, especially because he is the one with the homework. It just finally feels as if we are accomplishing the goals for which we moved to Fort Worth in the first place.

It’s funny how a few months of doing something different could make it seem as though our life has lost some of its purpose. It is easy to believe that your life has no influence for God because we aren’t daily preparing Bible studies and making disciples and meeting one on one.

But what we are achieving is perfect. We are achieving obedience. God told us to come here. It wasn’t easy or happy at times but He said go and we went. I am proud of where we are. And though we are setting our faces like flint and settling in for the long haul I know whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until that day.

We covet your prayers and hope for phone calls to brighten our days.

Amyzinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13074501615012900907noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11035256.post-70226716004735698142008-01-17T12:24:00.001-08:002008-01-17T12:25:45.531-08:00Winter DepressionI am too depressed to update.

Cruise = :)

32 Degree Fort Worth = :(Amyzinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13074501615012900907noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11035256.post-88401631565416158212008-01-03T18:26:00.001-08:002008-01-03T18:37:58.126-08:00What to Pack for A Cruise! Here is what is going into my suitcase.
